In the world we live in demons are seen as somewhat of a myth and mostly forgotten and yet during the time that Jesus walked on the earth they were a reality. Have they disappeared as most people would have you think or have they succeeded in fooling us all? Because spirits do not die, demons and all the evil host of heaven are happily carrying out their evil plans among an ignorant population bent on living life to the max. What is seen as crime and bad judgment to the general population is in reality demons living out their lives through their human host. Everyday children disappear and countless others are murdered on the streets of our cities and no one looks to see why so much of this is coming about.
In the gospel of Mark we see a demon who knows who Jesus is and was terrified that He would punish him, but Jesus just told him to be quiet, Mark 1:23. Demons were a reality in both the Old Testament and the New Testament, the people knew that these beings lived among them but had no way to be delivered until Jesus came along. In Mark 5 there is the story of the man from Gadarenes who was possessed by a legion of demons who tortured him day and night until he met Jesus and was delivered. Again in the ninth chapter of Mark we have a case where an evil spirit has robbed a young boy of his speech and the disciples could not drive it out. When the boy was bought in front of Jesus he commanded the deaf and mute spirit to come out and never enter the boy again, at once the spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out of the boy, who was healed instantly.
Demons are real, just because we refuse to believe they don't exist does not mean they are gone. Today more than ever we can see the effects of evil spirits on the general population when we turn on the news and see mothers killing their own babies or fathers killing the entire family because of a jealous fit. We assumed that something snapped in that person when in reality it is a demon on a murdering rampage. Of course the demon is not the one going to court and losing his life, it is the human who will be blamed and put in prison forever or put on the electric chair. Demons speak to everyone about doing evil things but we have the right to say "no I don't do that" and refuse even when we think it is our own mind.
Children especially are targets for demons and other evil spirits as well as house hold pets. When parents are addicted to drugs, alcohol, or perversion, such as pornography or wife swapping, portals are opened to the spiritual realm. Through these doors come all types of spirits and demons who look for the easiest target. Greed, vanity, excessive pride, incest, and many other ills open portals to the unknown. Witchcraft and all the occult are favorite entry ways for all types of unclean spirits who come to steal, kill, and destroy everything you have worked for or value. They well take your peace, joy, reputation, health, and your finances. Whatever makes you miserable they will work at till they succeed. The goal of the evil realm is to take your hopes and dreams and finally destroy you and your family.
Like Jesus the apostle Paul saw the world as a war between the forces of good and the forces of evil. He knew that Satan also had a kingdom which was run along the same lines as the kingdom of God. In the book of Ephesians chapter 6:12 Paul tells us that our struggles are not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, the authorities, the powers of this dark world and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. These are the different offices Satan has given to his ruling army which work in conjunction with witches and other evil people here on earth. In the second book of Corinthians chapter 11:13 Paul speaks of Satan masquerading as an angel of light and his servants coming as servants of righteousness, meaning they can preach on Sundays and act very holy and still be agents of evilness.
If both our Lord Jesus and the early apostles could see and even spoke to these demons and imps why is so little said about them in the churches and mission halls of the world? The New Testament is full of warnings about how to keep one self from the enemies grasp and how to spot the enemies work, but we seemed to have lost all that. The evil realm has convinced the church that they don't exist, that Jesus killed them all when he died on the cross, and pastor dare not bring this subject up or the people might get scared and go down the street where they don't believe in that. The Christian church which is supposed to be the light and the wall guarding the world from the powers of evil has joined the world in its love for pleasure and material gain. Those who speak about spiritual war are regarded as fanatics and unlearned making Satan the happiest being on earth.
In 1 Timothy 4:1 the apostle Paul writes, The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
