If you are going abroad on a holiday this season, you might be thinking about going to one of the Canary Islands. Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Gran Canaria are the most well known islands, but you can also go to one of the smaller islands like La Gomera, La Palma or El Hierro. They are surely worth the visit as well.
The Canary Islands outside of Africa, have a fantastic climate that attracts travelers from all over the world, especially in the wintertime. Every day have normally at least 8 hours of sunshine, and a nice temperature between 20 and 26 degrees in the winter. The summer is a little bit hotter, but even then the climate is perfect for relaxing or adventures holidays.
The most visited islands are the ones of Gran Canaria and Tenerife. Gran Canaria with the famous towns like Maspalomas, Arguineguin in the south, or Las Palmas in the north are perfect for sunbathing and beachlife. Tenerife with towns like Los Gigantes, Playa Paraiso in the south or Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the north have maybe some more scenery and nice nature to see, and here you can also find the highest mountain in Spain. The Pico de Teide is almost 3.800 meters high.
My favorite on each of the two islands have to be the small beach of Salinetas on the east side of Gran Canaria, here there is almost any tourists and if you want to experience the real Canarian atmosphere, this is one of the best beaches on the island. The sand is black but you will find a great atmosphere with some small shops, bars, restaurants and live music on Saturdays and Sundays.
On Tenerife you have to visit the town of La Laguna, up the hill about 15 minutes from Puerto de la Cruz. This is not the place to sunbath, because you will experience a lot of clouds, but this is a nice place to get away from all the buzz from the south-side of the island. A lazy town with some very good tapas-bars to enjoy.
No matter what island you choose to go to for your holidays, don't forget to explore some of the other places in the Canary Islands. There are much more to see apart from hotels and beaches. Hire a car and enjoy the fantastic scenery up in the mountains or in the small towns outside the Humm and the Buzz from the bars and the discos. Enjoy your holiday to the Canary Islands!
